Helping Families Build Financial Confidence One Lesson at a Time
Helping Educators Build Financially Confident Students
Every great financial lesson begins with a prepared teacher.
Recently, educators gathered for a professional development workshop hosted by the Mississippi Council on Economic Education, where they explored engaging ways to introduce financial literacy through children's books, interactive activities, and classroom discussions.
The workshop demonstrated how financial concepts can be taught in ways that are both meaningful and enjoyable—helping students connect everyday decisions with lifelong money skills.
Learning by Doing
One of the most valuable parts of the workshop was experiencing the lessons firsthand.
Educators worked through the same hands-on activities their students would complete, including sorting exercises, financial discussions, and collaborative learning experiences.
These interactive lessons encourage students to think critically about topics such as:
- Needs versus wants
- Saving for future goals
- Spending decisions
- Jobs and earning money
- Building healthy financial habits
Bringing Financial Literacy into Every Classroom
Financial literacy doesn't require a separate class—it can become part of everyday learning.
The Owning the Dash books and Financial Literacy Kit are designed to help educators introduce age-appropriate money concepts through engaging stories and classroom-ready activities.
Whether teaching elementary students, leading an after-school program, or working in a homeschool setting, these resources make it easier to start meaningful conversations about money.
Thank You to Our Education Partners
